University Overview

Established in 2006 in the capital city, Tbilisi, Ilia State University was formed by the merger of six different institutions. The mission of ISU revolves around three main principles: unity of teaching and scientific research, unity of liberal and specialized education, and unity of global and local education. The university has been ranked as the top research university in the South Caucasus based on its research outputs.

ISU particularly focuses on contributing to environmental preservation and overseeing the implementation of community projects. It has the highest competition rate for doctoral programs in Georgia and maintains strong international relations through student exchange programs and a high number of international students. The university has approximately 16,000 students and over 1,500 faculty and research staff. It is known for its quality infrastructure and provides all necessary facilities, including advanced research laboratories, study halls, and a library.

  • High school diploma (for bachelor’s program applicants) or bachelor’s degree certificate (for master’s program applicants).
  • Language certificate (equivalent to CEFR B2/upper-intermediate level).
  • Valid passport.

  • Motivation letter (for master’s program applicants).
